49 CFR Part 40
49 CFR Part 40 is an umbrella regulation that governs the overall
rules and responsibilities for all employers and all service agents.
This document is the core of the regulation. No employer or service
agent should be without a complete and up-to-date copy of Part 40.
49
CFR Part 40, Procedures for Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol
Testing Programs.
This version is up-to-date as of February 25, 2010. This is a Word
document, 100 pages long.
The first 76 pages are the regulations. From page 77 to page 100
you will find Appendices and other supporting information relevant
to the regulation.
To use this document most effectively, we recommend that you first
save it as a Word document. Once you have saved it, open it, and
go to File/Properties/General, and check the Read-Only box, so that
you can't accidentally make changes to it. Then, when you have a
question related to something in the regulation, you can search
for specific words and phrases by using your computer’s Search
function. For example, if your question is about dilute test results,
search for the word "dilute". It's a lot easier than trying
to visually skim through the entire document. Also, by clicking
on a specific question in the first five pages, you will be taken
immediately to that question in the body of the document.
